Opening documents

I am using Open Office on my MacBook Pro

Over the last couple of days, I have had difficulties opening documents. I save a document and close it down. When I next try to open it, the document won't open. When i click on open with - the first option is Text Edit.

What has happened and how to do I stop it

What happens when you go File > Open ...? Does it open?

Try opening this .odt file.

When I select file open nothing happens.
