[Solved] Format error in the file sub-document content.xml
Hey there, i am hoping for help. My partner is writing a children´s book on OO and cannot open the attached file anymore. I tried a Text reader and Microsoft Word and last night i updated from OO 4.1.3 to 4.1.5. The error is the follwoing(translated from german): Read-Error sub-document content.xml position 2,3847 (row, col)
We would really appreciate help because she spent hours reediting the text without making a backup. Lesson learned

Re: Format error in the file sub-document content.xml
The attached file opens for me in 4.1.4; please let me know if it is missing anything.
You might consider installing and using Timestamped backup to give you a recovery option.

Look at the other thread in which you posted (where the repaired file is) and adopt robleyd's suggestion about installing the timed backup utility.

I've sent a PM with an email address; or you can upload it to a file sharing site such as Mediafire and post the link here.

Any thoughts about what might cause this problem?

Re: [Solved] Format error in the file sub-document content.x
I've never had it happen to me; my normal use of OpenOffice is for text editing/formatting, with a lesser use for presentations. I regularly edit large files, sometimes several thousands of pages in size and am careful to close down the file and then the computer when editing is finished. I have just checked one work in progress - it has 220 pages, 60k words and has had 3720 file save operations (I instinctively type Ctrl S after any major edit); surely we might expect that a file subject to such extensive editing would show such a bug if it existed in the code? I have other files, larger (one million words, thousands of pages, thousands of edits/saves) also without problems.catbill wrote:Any thoughts about what might cause this problem?
This problem is much more common in LibreOffice (particularly in LO's .docx files) and often seems to relate to clusters of Annotations (Comments) in student documents being revised by peers and tutors; however, the association with multiple Annotations may be erroneous - the problem may be caused (perhaps also in earlier cases in this thread) by over hasty close down of the file and computer by one of the revisers.
Until a method of causing this problem is discovered there is little chance of a cure being found.
It is strongly recommended that any file of size or importance should be regularly backed up by timed/dated backups. That way, any damage is limited to loss of the last editing session.

Re: [Solved] Format error in the file sub-document content.x
That is helpful to know. I am using LibreOffice and the document has a significant number of comments. So, that backs up your suggestion.
Always helpful to have automatic back-ups.

There is an extension for timed/dated backups
