[Solved] soffice.bin process persists

Post by trogne »

Hi,

Most of the time, when I close an open office application (calc, writer), process "soffice.bin" and "soffice.exe" persists in taskmanager.

Because of that, I cannot reopen calc or writer. I have to kill the soffice.bin process each time.

How can I solve that ?

I close the app using the top-left "X" or using "file - exit".

I just noticed that it always happen. App close correctly only if I don't make any changes to the file.

If I make the slightest change and close the file, I have to open taksmanager and kill soffice.bin.

Try /File /Close. and wait a few seconds before trying to open another OO Application or to re-open the same file. Normally these processes should vanish within a few seconds after closure.

No, even with /File /Close, process remains forever.

Check, at operating system level, that you have rights to create _and_ delete files in the appropriate directory.

Try with this simple file which has just one word in it. Download it and save it to your desktop.

If all works OK, then it is something to do with your file or its location.

Also, are you using the AOO Quickstarter? soffice.bin, soffice.exe and swriter.exe will continue running after AOO Writer closes. Tools > Options > OpenOffice > Memory > Load during startup .... Untick it and reboot. Test again.

You do not need Quickstarter and I never use it.

You are correct that if a "rogue" soffice.bin or .exe remains it will prevent AOO from starting. When this happens another soffice.??? appears for each start attempt.

If this solves the problem, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.
