[Solved] Issues with Calc post 4.1.4. update today

Post by John C-P »

Hi All,

I have been using Open Office Calc for a number of years without issue, however, having carried out the update process to V4.1.4. this morning I have an issue with a simple cell calculation of =A1*A2 returning ERR:509. I have tried re entering the formula without success.
This is affecting all of my spreadsheets going back almost 10 years.

Any ideas, words of guidance would be appreciated.

Regards,

John

I've just tried and it works correctly for me. Try /View /Value Highlighting and check that the operands are numeric. (Blue for numbers, black for text, green for a formula)

Please try the attached file.

Hello,
Thank you for the quick response, I have the same results as your attached file. Instead of the sum of the calculation appearing in the destination cell I have ERR:509. I am loathed to uninstall the entire suite and reinstall but I obviously will if that is the only resolution. The question of course is why the error after many years of faultless operation.

I would start by renaming your OpenOffice user profile. Error 509 means "Missing Operator" which suggests that something is wrong with your keyboard or locale selection in OpenOffice.

Re-install of OpenOffice does nothting.
Either you reset your user profile or you install the successor of OpenOffice which is https://libreoffice.org/
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Resolution achieved. I created a new spreadsheet containing a simple formula i.e. =A1*A2 and it worked with nominal values of 10 and 20 in A1 and A2,

Then i reopened my main spreadsheet which had the problem and where before I had cells with ERR:509 I now have the correct calculation.

All's well that ends well etc. etc.

Thanks for your help

Cheers,

John
