Hey
I just tried to download last version Openoffice 4.1.4 in rpm and install, there is a problem with java jre not being found. So I installed JRE last version 1.8.0.151 but same problem.
Happily I could reinstall OO 4.1.3, which was uninstalled to make a cleaner install in case.
If someone knows something about this issue. Either there is something to do or a bug is there.
cheers
Bruno

Re: OO 4.1.4 new install in rpm, java not found, OO not work
Was it a 32 bit Java? For OpenOffice it needs to be.

Re: OO 4.1.4 new install in rpm, java not found, OO not work
Also, OpenOffice should not need a jre to install. I recently did an installation of 4.1.4 on Linux Mint and had no problem despite the lack of a jre.

Re: OO 4.1.4 new install in rpm, java not found, OO not work
so its gets immediately complicated.
All I can say is that it is the first install problem on this kind of distro since the 90's

A question - and as you have posted here the answer is probably obvious - you have downloaded through

It's not complicated.BrunoLC wrote:so its gets immediately complicated.
Java is not needed to install AOO.
When you have installed AOO, Java is not essential when you run AOO as most functions do not need it.
But some functions in AOO need Java to work. If you install Java so you can run these functions, be sure to install 32 bit Java even if you already have 64 bit Java installed on your PC
It's quite simple and was explained to you in the earlier posts.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

Re: OO 4.1.4 new install in rpm, java not found, OO not work
We are all thinking like Windows Users!! OpenOffice on Linux is available both as 32 and 64 bit versions; the version matching the bitness of the version of linux is the one that should be installed. BrunoLC; have you installed an OpenOffice of the correct bitness?

Re: OO 4.1.4 new install in rpm, java not found, OO not work
I am very sorry for your loss of time, I am making a fool of myself, I installed the 32bits AOO, now it works fine with the 64 bits
Apologies
One precision though, what lead to to believe it was a java issue is that when trying to launch the app through console the error message was related to java.

Re: OO 4.1.4 new install in rpm, java not found, OO not work
We often forget about the bitness! On 64 bit Windows 32 bit apps can often run OK. I have some 32 bit apps running on 64 bit linux, but have never bothered to investigate why 32 bit OO is not happy on 64 bit linux.
Edit: I presume a 32 bit OO on a 64 bit linux would require some 32 bit processes installed. I have never investigated this, nor what these processes might be, as 64 bit OO runs well on 64 bit linux (in my experience) |
