Password protection

Post by BillP »

I have a file that I created with MSWord. It was password protected in Word.

Now that I have migrated to O.O. (4.1.3 ... running on Windoze 7) I wish to continue to use that file.

I opened the .doc file. Saved it to an odt file with the password option.
But now when I open the .odt file, and enter my password, it does not allow any changes.

SO... I want to maintain the password protection on the file, but I also want to edit it when I'm in O.O.
How does I does that?
Thanks
~Bill

Welcome to the forum.

Ask someone with MS Word to open and save the file for you without a password. Microsoft uses several different password encryptions and Writer supports only some of them.

See [Tutorial] Differences between Writer and MS Word files for a fuller explanation.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
