[Solved] Split two lines together...

Post by Reynhard »

Hi

I have a special question for a special job... ;-)

There are two lines of numbers and words, written in a monospace font.
This lines I have to split into several parts, and the numbers in the first line have to stay together with the words in the second line.

Please look at this screenshot:

I hope everyone can see the problem: the numbers and the words have to stay together!
Is there a trick to do this easy and fast (there are many many lines...)?

Thnx, Reynhard

Greetings and welcome to the community forum!

Is it possible? Yes. Easy and fast? Not that I know of.

One way would be to use Writer's "block selection" mode (Edit > Selection Mode > Block Area). That allows you to select the ends of both lines and cut and paste to new lines below. But that all has to be done manually.

Do the numbers have any definable relation with the words?

That meens: copy both lines and delete the numbers and parts on the left of the "split break" and on the right....?

Ah, now I understand, tested it and it looks GOOD! This makes it much easier... ;-)

You misunderstand me: how are the numbers arrived at?

If I give a sample text
"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"
how do you derive numbers for this string?

The numbers are the channel numbers of a harmonica, and the words are the lyrics of a song. So the number tells the tone that should sound, and the words tells the rhythm and the length of the tone... ;-)

You could (FIND & REPLACE) set some tabs and then transform the text into a table. For that reason an uploaded text would do much better than a screenshot... I am not sure whether this method will work...

This sounds very similar to guitar chords. You may want to take a look at this older thread on that topic:

It seems the "block selection mode" is the best solution - select the right part of both lines and drag&drop it in the next line....
Thnx 2 acknak... :-)
