When do you get the write error? When you try to Load or is it when you try to Save? Is there further information about the process needing elevation? OpenOffice 32 bit should work correctly on a 64 bit Windows.

Error message occurs whenever I try anything, load or open good file that works on another machine, copy text or data from a write file into a blank .odt or numbers or formulas into blank .ods or anything else for that matter. I can open blank pages: text or spreadsheets, but cannot save any data copied into them.

RoryOF,
have re installed 4.1.3 even tried 4.1.2 and latest Java 8, still have same problem. Can load blank spreadsheet and text document, but cannot save whatever I enter, also can't load docks and spread sheets that are ok w 4.1.3 on another machine. Latest error message is "General Error - General input/output error". Is this Lenovo laptop lacking a special program? AMD multicore and plenty of memory. I'm getting frustrated and disappointed.

Try the Libreoffice or try the office suites with same instaler pack on an another computer.
If the LO not work on your computer, the problem located in your machine in the hardware or in the op. sys (permission rights, etc...).
If the AOO will not work on an another computer, maybe the installer file is damaged.

You can try reset (delete or rename) the User profile of the AOO on your computer before.

If it is not enough, then you can try clearly reinstall the AOO (The word "clearly" means in this case: you must delete the rest files from the program directory and from the user profile manually after uninstalling the office suite, before you reinstall it). Download the installer pack again from the official download page.

Thanks to all that helped. Solved the issue by resetting the os (Win 10 reinstall utility). Don't know I had to do this - Win 10 unstable and quirky.
