LibreWeb -- an internet tool

Post by vladboscaneanu »

Hi to all.
I am developing an extension for LibreOffice (only).
May I put a direct link to this topic, so the user directly from the menu will able to access it?
I mean a kind of support page, for feedback (of course temporarily, extension site is under construction)
If answer is affermative, I will soon add the description and a guide.
Thanks in advance.

As long as it is related to the Open Document Format and its office suites you are welcome to post anything you want.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Hi to all.
The version 1.0.3 is available.
As before ,the main place to download extension is LibreOffice Extensions site.
However , here is a copy of extension:
--for most cases a user variant will work
--if you have problems,trying to start extension, then use an admin variant.
Due to Openoffice uploaded files size limitations, I can't attach the help file.Feel free to download it
from github,or from LibreWeb menu.

Please report for any bugs or incorrect work.

Features added with version 1.0.3

1.Import web settings
Now you can import the libreweb.data file with a previously inserted web settings.
So, if someone wants to make portable settings,made with LibreWeb all you need is
-libreweb.data file
-the Calc document,or another with the same name.

2.Export web settings
To transfer web settings ,made with LibreWeb, just export created libreweb.data,
then import it on another machine.

3.Check SSL module
Unfortunately some version of LibreOffice comes with a broken ssl module.
Due to this issue, the LibreWeb may works incorrect.
To check the integrity of installed ssl module,just use this command.

4.Check for updates
The version 1.0.3 comes with an important feature: update module.
Ever each week LibreWeb will check for new updates, it is also possible to do
this manually, using this command.

5.Download help file
You can download the last version of Help.pdf from github.

6.Menu icons from font-awesome
To improve user experience with LibreWeb, now each menu item has
a icon from font-awesome.

A small example
You want to get the titles of last updated topics from 3 selected sections Base, Extension and Calc.
Just import libreweb.data, then open example1 calc file and run Start service.

A more powerful example.
Using web-data to do some calculations.
In the zip file there are 2 files:
-- a Calc document
--LibreWeb web-settings file (libreweb.data)
I made a small table, where will import data from italian Stock Exchange.
real_time.PNG
For first , open your Calc file.
Then, from LibreWeb menu , import settings file (Import web settings ).
After just run Start Service.
In a few seconds the cells on column Current value will be filled with real-time prices of these items.
Of course on the working time of italian Stock Exchange.
Feel free to type every number of shares on Shares nr. to got a Total.
Feel free to update the sheet as many times as you want, just re-run Start Service again.
At this moment there is a limitation:
--LibreWeb works incorrectly with variable type Double, so the imported numbers will be Integer, as type.
I hope to solve this soon, in a next realise.
Good day to all!

Truly, Thankyou.

Small typo on file download links within https://extensions.libreoffice.org/extensions/libreweb
Both are shown as "user" (no "admin").

Cheers.

Dear friend .
The issue is not a problem, it is only a strange way to show some content of LibreOffice Extensions' site.
For switching between 'user' and 'admin' realises, just choose a realise, better the latest,from the realises' table.
Thanks for using LibreWeb!
Have a nice day!

A new version is available (version 1.0.5) with these changes:

1.Convert bad value to a string.
Sometimes web-pages change, and the output of a tag may change.
Due to this you can get an error, when trying to convert Value to String.
LibreWeb will NOT convert a bad numeric value to a string, to avoid error messages.
Instead, a string will inserted in the spreadsheet cell, as it is on original internet page.
2.Send me an email.
It is possible to send me an email directly, from menu. To do it, it is neccesary
to have installed an email client like Outlook, Thunderbird etc.
3.Some general improvements.

To do list
1.Working to make LibreWeb more portable.

Version 1.0.7 is available.

Towards portability -
Now web data is stored directly into document, instead of user folder.If you have old data, created with a previous version,just
import it by menu.

Help file is available offline.

Does not appear to work on LO v6. Everything works as expected but it does not write to the spreadsheet.

What is the license?

https://github.com/vladboscaneanu/LibreWeb does not list any license data.

https://extensions.libreoffice.org/extensions/libreweb claims
GNU GPL 3.0 for the following:
* V 1.0.7;
* v 1.0.5;
* v.1.0.41;
* v.1.0.4;

GNU GPL 2.0 for the following:
* v 1.0.6;
* v 1.0.3;
* v.1.0.2;
* v.1.0.0;

The license acceptance page of the extension states:
"You are not allow to use this software for commercial purposes."

So which of those two mutually exclusive licenses is one supposed to treat as binding?

Hi.
LibreOffice extensions' site is a little bit confusing and hard to set.
The correct license is the incorporated one, "You are not allow to use this software for commercial purposes".

failed to get it (both releases in different versions) to work on LO 6.2.4 (Mojave on retina mbp).

a) the set data form looks weird and doesn't allow input of tag numbers (unreadable squeezed combobox)
b) while ssl test seems ok, no connection is established: "site not reachable or internet connection is missing"

Is anyone still maintaining this extension? If so, how do I contact them?

Thanks,

You could try the email link in the first post in this topic; or go to the extension download page and use the link to a contact form on the lower right of the page.

Hi David,

Thank you. I did send him an email through the extension about a week ago and haven't received a reply or bounce. I'll try through here and see if it's a different address.

Take care,
Chris

I'd like to use this extension but cannot install it. When installing, and when enabling, I get the message 'Failed to register package ...'.

The extension is written in python and the python code is included in the .oxt file. If one were sufficiently interested, one could inspect that code and make whatever modifications were necessary.
