Pictures in writer

Post by rnldlbl »

I would like to know how to change the orientation of a picture inserted into text document from landscape to portrait like one can do in MS Word.

There i s an extension
https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/pr ... tationtool
to rotate pictures in Writer. I have not tried this.

It is often advisable to do any picture manipulation in an external graphics editor before placing the finished graphic in Writer.

This extension won't work for the latest OO versions...

You also may insert the picture in Draw, then from Draw into Writer (regularly it is transformed into a drawing shape). But one step more.

If you often need to rotate pictures you also can use LibreOffice as easiest solution, this function of rotating is built-in and you don't have to care about that... One can apply things like transparency, gamma value, contrast, brightness after rotation as well as unrotated.

Try out LibreOffice as portable app, later you may take it as first choice and install. Be aware that an additional installation of OpenOffice and LibreOffice may cause some curiosities, but it is possible to use portable versions (or, if more specific, parallel ones) without mutual interferencies.

This is definitely the best way of proceeding. No changes in format, less RAM problems.

It may be sufficient to change the entry for Maximal version in description.xml to 4.2.0; I haven't tried this, but that is where I would start if I needed this to work.

Try the LibreOffice. You can rotate the embedded pictures (by 90 degrees only) in the newer versions of the LO writer. It works for
me in my LO 4.4.7: right click on the picture - Rotate Image - Rotate 90° left...
and in my LO 5.2.7, LO 5.3.3. : right click on the picture - Rotate - Rotate 90° left...

Please, edit the initial post in the topic: add the word [Solved] at the beginning of the subject line - if your problem has been solved.

Thanks guys for the info. Downloaded LibreOffice , that works. On quick inspection seems it does what MS Office does.

Using LO sure is a better option.
For OO and LO the writerrotationtool is a good choice if you need other angles than 90.
Here is a version that should work on OO4.1.2+. (see attachment, unzip before installation, restart OO after)

For LO see the official LO extension page.
