Presentation Clickers that work

Post by amitchell@kelworth »

I have recently installed Impress on my business computer, and love the way it works thus far. However, I am wondering if there are any presentation clickers that are known to work. I'd like to be sure before spending the bucks. Thanks a lot!

Hopefully someone can give you a specific answer, but in case they don't, here's the little that I know.

The one "clicker" that I've used actually simulated a key press, so that pressing the button on the clicker appeared the same as if you pressed "return" on the keyboard, and PPT would respond in the same way: advance the slide.

If other clickers work the same way, Impress should work as well as PPT. Impress does not support exactly the same keyboard shortcuts as PPT but it should be ok, at least for the basic forward/backward commands.

Are you talking about these RF / Bluetooth etc. clickers you can use while your walking around trying to follow the rapid eye movements of the audience?

I use a Logitech R-RB5 which has an integrated laser pointer, forward/backward buttons and F5/Escape. This model is about a year old, so there may well be a successor out there. I use it about once every three months and it works perfectly. Works for both openSuSE Linux 10.3 (?)/ 11.0 and Windows-XP. My Hardware is a relatively up-to-date Notebook from Fujitsu-Siemens. I would say the hardware would generally be the first hurdle to take. If you find one that does the F5, Fwd/Bwd stuff at all with you laptop then I'm sure it will work with OpenOffice.
