[Solved] Use AOO without Outlook

Post by JudyCher5 »

 Edit:
I downloaded OO because I understood I could use it as an email program. My Outlook has expired (though I'm still able to use it temporarily) but I thought I could save all my files and just use OO to run the program. If not correct, must I continue to buy or rent MS Office? Or switch to a different email provider? I can't afford to lose all my Outlook files...

OpenOffice does not have an email component. I did a quick search for ways to convert Outlook files to another format and I didn't find anything very promising. Others may know better. That is one of the joys of proprietary formats.

This is unrelated to AOO, but...

You might consider using Thunderbird as your mail client but you'll need a functioning Outlook to be able to get the Outlook mail across to Thunderbird - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_.pst_files

There is probably a Thunderbird support forum should you decide to go that way.

Thanks - I would still need to buy Outlook so will stick with my Chrome, although keeping your Thunderbird suggestion for the future. Appreciate your help.

A quick Google search brought up these instructions as an option.
Outlook Options
1) Drag Emails from Outlook to a Folder.
2) Export Everything to an Outlook PST File.
3) Use the "Save as" Command in Outlook.
4) Use a Script or Third-Party Tool to Save Outlook Emails in Other Formats.
5) Use a Desktop Email Client.
6) Use a Gmail Backup Service or Program.

For step 4, I suggest you try Zamzar
