[Solved] OpenOffice.org Installation and registration screen

Post by bilalg »

Hi, I am in the process of creating an image for 500 laptops with Open Office installed, I would like Open Office to default save as Microsoft Office .doc .xls etc, and also deactivate/disable the wizard at startup for all users.

Windows XP Pro SP3
Open Office 2.4.1

Thank You

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Install OOo on the first PC, go through the initial set up wizard and then into the Tools, Options, Load and Save, General and set the default file types in the drop down menus for each of the document types.

Once you have the settings right, use that as the basis of your image.

If your question has been answered please go to your first post, use the edit button and add [Solved] as the first word of the title. You can also select the green tick icon.

I went through the initial setup on user account A. on user account B when Open Office was started, the wizard dialog box popped up. I want to enable all users on the Domain to log on without the wizard shown.

The Administration Guide explains another way to deactivate the registration wizard:

I have tried the above but the wizard still shows up and once the wizard is complete, the file save as formats remain the same.

The linked Admin guide page does not help with the file formats settings.. it is only to deactivate the First Start wizard. Last i tested it, it worked OK though.... did you use the unopkg add step?

yes I have, these are the steps I have followed. I download the deactivation files. unzipped and placed them in the open office program files folder.

I then typed the following in cmd prompt.

C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program>unopkg add --shared DisableFirstStartWzd.oxt

ERROR: Error while adding: file:///C:/Program%20Files/OpenOffice.org%202.4/progr
am/DisableFirstStartWzd.oxt
Cause: an error occured during file opening
unopkg failed.
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program>

What am I doing wrong??

You unzipped the OXT file? If you did, then that is your problem. Do not unzip it. Just add it in its original OXT format.

unopkg is in the programs directory. It is easiest to run it direct from there - although not necessary if you use the full path to run unopkg.

That will install the extension only for the user that is logged in at the time. To install for all users on one machine (as far as I know), you need to use unopkg add -shared

I am still unable to get this to work. I am getting the following error.

ERROR: Error while adding: file:///C:/Program%20Files/OpenOffice.org%202.4/program/DisableFirstStartWzd.oxt

I have finally worked out the solution to my problem, when I download the file, it saves the file as a .zip extension, I changed the extension and uploaded it to the relevant folder and it worked fine. Thank You for your help n support
