Running OO on an OX Laptop

Post by Sadrx »

Will Open Office work on the new OX laptops?

This is the software specs as I have been able to find them:
http://www.laptop.org/en/laptop/software/specs.shtml

Hardware:

For $400 US right now, you can get one and they send one to a child in a developing nation on your behalf. The clincher for me will be if it can run Open Office so it would be easily compatable with my work on my home based computer.

Thanks,
Benjamin

I'm not sure this kind of laptop is well suited for an office suite. Even if OOo runs fine under Fedora, I'm not sure there is any possibility to install any other application. OOo will take half the space of the flash mass storage (not sure if it's really safe for data storage). And it doesn't seem to provide any external port to plug an USB key for example.

Have you tried to contact them ?

I read that OOo was evaluated and decided to be too big and slow (and complex?), so my guess is that there's nothing preventing it from running, it just isn't a good fit, as Hagar already suggested.

The reviews I've seen so far for the Eee PC all suggest that that's what you want. It already comes with OOo, and is more like a general purpose laptop.
