Endnote X6 toolbar not plugged in

Post by Bo-Hong »

I installed the Endnote X6 on my win8 computer, but cannot see the Endnote toolbar show up in my openoffice 3.4.1. Even though I had followed the instruction: install openoffice first then close all its application, then install Endnote.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? many thank in advance.

Are you sure that you closed everything? You may have the Quickstarter still loaded. I'd suggest doing a complete shutdown and reboot of the computer. It often cures weird Windows problems.

OTOH if it still is not working, if you haven't paid for EndNote yet you might want to give Zotero a try. I have not used EndNote in several years but Zotero and EndNote seem to have similar capacities and I like the Zotero interface a bit better.

Thank you for the suggestion. I try the restart but it didn't work. I contact the Endnote Support Team and recieved an useful instruction:

1. Start the OpenOffice.org Writer.
2. Click the Tools menu and select Extension Manager.
3. Press the Add button.
4. Navigate to the CWYW folder, which can typically be found here: C:\Program Files\EndNote X6\Product-Support\CWYW

On 64-bit systems, this will be the folder will be "Program Files (x86)." Note that if you have program installed in a different location, you would need to find this CWYW folder in that other location.

5. Select the 'EndNote.oxt' file and click Open.
6. Click Install for All Users.
7. Click Close.
8. Exit the OpenOffice.org Writer and the OpenOffice.org Quickstarter that may appear in your System Tray. Right click on the icon in the System Tray and select Exit Quickstarter.
9. Restart the OpenOffice.org Writer.

I have just installed OO 4.1.2. I had previously installed EndnoteX7 and it works fine in Word 13.
Can't get it to be recognised in OO.
Followed the advice given by Bo-Hong for Endnote X6. Restarted all systems.
OO doesn't recognise ENX7.

Anyone have any advice please?

A quick (not exhaustive) search of the Endnote site finds that Endnote list compatibility with OpenOffice 1, 2, 3. Knowledge on Forum is that OO 4 changed access methods for toolbars, so it is not surprising if Endnote does not work on OO 4; perhaps Endnote have a modified version adapted to the OO 4 requirements? It is worth asking on their site.
Edit: I recollect that there has been discussion on Forum of how to adapt older extensions to run on OO4 and some code to assist the process. I've no knowledge of the intricacies of this or of the whereabouts of the postings on the Forum.
