Spacings in formulas screwed up

Post by yslsl »

Hi,
I have been fighting with this problem on my Desktop PC (win7-32 bit, then win8.1-64 bit, now win10-64bit) for a long time now.
Many of my formulas, most notably those with a "cdot"-symbol but also others ("mline") have screwed up spacings, and I have no idea why.
They look normal when I load my documents on my business laptop. I tried to purge everything on my Desktop and reinstall, but no success.

There are workarounds of course - I can just use the "`" spacing character.
But that makes my formulas look weird on other platforms such as my business laptop.

I tried to change the font used in formulas (to STIX), but the problem seems unrelated to the font used.

Any hints would be appreceated.

I suggest there are configuration differences on the various machines.
My result from AOO 4.1.2 on WinXP using font STIX in MATH
Edit: I see that you are using WRITER. Using Writer & insert formula, my result does not change.

The same problems show up in OOMath. (AOO4.1.2)
I wonder what configurations might have his impact. I completely wiped OpenOffice from my system and then reinstalled it.

Thanks for your input, however.

I have reviewed all settings and they match yours exactly.
They are all (except for the fonts) in default state, as I wiped and reinstalled ooffice repeatedly.

The spacing settings were my prime suspect, though.
But: They are fine with the "+" operator but screwed up with the "-", "cdot", "mline" and a couple of other operators.

I can not reproduce the problem, but I do not have access to Win 7, 8 or 10.
Do you have a newer monitor with high resolution?
Maybe this first post in this forum topic might apply?

Unfortunately not... I just tried.
I will investigate the installed fonts now.

AOO's silent substitution of a similar font for missing fonts is a known "feature". :(
The same fonts (preferably from the same source) should be installed on all machines using shared AOO files.

I notice today that the STIX-Fonts configured as above introduce huge spacings above my formulas in Writer.
With Times New Roman, this problem does not exist.
The mismatched spacings before cdot as well as before and after the minus are unaffected by font changes.
The whole problem might be font related still... crap.

How I wish there was a nice Latex-Formula plugin for Open Office.

You are welcome!
(I came about this a few weeks ago. Since I do not need much formula editing any more I did not yet test it.)

Did you get the STIX fonts from this site or are you using an older version of the font?

ALSO, configuration changes, as posted above, are saved with individual Math files if the current Math object is saved.
Clicking the DEFAULT button in the Configuration Windows sets configuration for all files created in the future.

I got it from a different site.
Mine was labeled as 1.1.1-latex, not as 1.1.1-word.
As I only installed the ttfs in the rather big zip package and assumed ttf's were system independant.
Are they not?
