OOo 3.0 Public Beta 2 available!

Post by Phil »

Hi everyone,

Since quite shortly, OOo 3.0 Public Beta 2 is available via the official download site!
It is also described how language packs can be obtained.

See also this entry of the releases mailing list and What's new in Beta 2 of OOo 3.0? on GullFOSS.

Looks like being quite stable and that many bugs are fixed!
Just a couple of things I really appreciate: But there are certainly many many more...

So enjoy the new version - it's worth it! 8-)

Best regards, phil

Does anyone know what is the difference between a "beta" release, and a "snapshot" release?

Are the betas simply re-labeled snapshots? Or, is there something deeper?

A 'snapshot' is a 'photograph' of the current development state and as such there is no warranty that the following snapshot will work better than the previous: it will have more features, but possibly more bugs also. A beta is something that is really close to the final product, with all the pieces together, but it still have too many bugs to be called 'release candidate'.

Also, this is the first Sun OOo to run on a Mac without the need for X11.

Thanks, RGB, but I see now that I wasn't very clear when I asked my question--sorry!

I'm wondering what is the actual difference in this case. What, if anything, is actually done for the betas that isn't done for the snapshots?
