Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? OO 2.4.0
What Operating System (version) are you using? MacOS 10.3.9
What is your question or comment?
Openoffice.org 2.4 does not launch properly on my Mac running 10.3.9. The installation was from the file: OOo_2._4._0._MacOSPPC install_en_us.dmg.
X11 was installed from: X11user.dmg.
X11 is installed in the utility folder and OO in the Applications folder on the startup drive.
At launch, all that happens is:
the bar at the top of the screen shows Openoffice.org File Edit
a small xterm window appears
after a few seconds Openoffice quits. The xterm window remains.
What to do?

Thanks, Gurkha.
But the trouble happens even if X11 is open before trying to start OO.
It appears to me that something else is going on.
Have any idea what it could be?

OO.o 2.4 requires OS 10.4.xx or 10.5.xx. Go to http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/ to find link to older version that works on OS 10.3.xx.dubent wrote:Openoffice.org 2.4 does not launch properly on my Mac running 10.3.9. Thank you, lgusaas. Surprisingly easy for me to overlook things like this.
Looks like OpenOffice 2.1 is the one that is needed.
Will give it a try when a high-speed connection is available for the download.

OpenOffice 2.1 does work, opening slowly and reluctantly.
Unfortunately, it appears to only have Writer. I was hoping for much more. Bummer.
Anyway, I very much appreciate the help in getting this far.

It has all the programs. To access them open OO.o and then click on File/New and select the program you want.dubent wrote: Unfortunately, it appears to only have Writer. I was hoping for much more.
