How can I make a template with stops to add measurements easily? I need me template to look like " x x cm" so I can easily add in the numbers later, "1.2 x 3.2 x 1.0 cm".

Hi and welcome to the forum!
You can use the form controls toolbar (View>Toolbars) to insert formatted fields, set the tabstop order so that when you open the template, the focus is set to the first field and then you just have to hit Tab key to proceed.
You've to check the button Automatic Focus also.

Re: Templates
If you are meaning "Templates" in the sense of "measured drawings" for some form of construction or fabrication work, OpenOffice may not be the best tool for the job. In that case you should look for some form of design or drafting program.

Re: Templates
Thanks. Is there a way to have the " x x cm" fixed in position so I don't have to manually move the next number? I've tried making small text boxes, but the spacing is hard to get correct.

No, I'm working on templates for medical transcription. I need a template with the most commonly used text (that can be changed as needed) and a way to input measurements of the organs (kidneys, ovaries...)

Re: Templates
I need the " x x cm" to" anchor" in place in the text box and still have the text box be able move if the body of the text changes.

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you're looking for. What is the text box you refer to? Is it some kind of text frame? Or is this just part of the running text of the document?
Can you use a simple replacement field? (see the attached sample)

Yes, a text box is like a text frame, but inserted through the form controls.
Thanks for your suggestion, I gave it a quick try and I don't think it's what I want, but it may be the best that's available. I'll work with it more and let you know.

Re: Templates
Ok, so if you're working with form controls, I don't know of anything available to help.
It might be possible to, say, click a button and have some text go to the clipboard, where you could then paste it in.
I don't work with form controls at all, so I hope someone else has a suggestion.

Unfortunately the numbers I need to enter change each time, but the body of the text often does not. So, I can't use any kind of auto text.
