[Solved] Extension update error message

Post by s67bigdave »

This error would seem to be about a missing file at SourceForge.net. When checking for extension updates, I get the following error message, twice. Note that I have gotten this error message in the past with previous versions of OpenOffice.

http://ooop.sourceforge.net/update/extensions.xml does not exist.

Clicked [OK] each time.

The update process went on to find an update for the English Dictionary "dict-en.oxt", which I then downloaded and installed.

I'm running Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

You are using an outdated URL. The correct one is
http://extensions.openoffice.org/

or access the extensions repository on the link from
http://www.openoffice.org/download/

That URL is built in to OpenOffice, it comes up when checking for updates to the extensions. It is not one that I type in or try to open, OpenOffice itself tries to open it.
Or it may be built in to the extensions themselves. Maybe I should remove the extensions labeled as having anything to do with OxygenOffice.

You will note that I am using the current version of OpenOffice. I have gotten this same error in previous versions as well.

You have installed an extension that contains an outdated address for update.
Check each of the extensions that you installed on Apache OpenOffice. Go to the web site where you found it, and find a newer version.

Actually, two extensions that had the outdated address. No updates available for either one, last updates were in 2007 and 2009. These have now been removed.

Can you please tell us the names of the extensions. There may be equivalent extensions.

From reading the OxygenOffice page, I think these extensions are now included in the current OxygenOffice. There is (at least) one mistake on that page - they list OpenOffice as costing $59. It is, however, FREE!

(Download OpenOffice only from
http://www.openoffice.org/download
which will redirect to SourceForge servers where the files are stored.

Ah yes, OxygenOffice Professional http://www.oxygenofficepro.com/ (site says v2.3) - d/l from CNET's download.com v3.2.1.40, added August 01, 2012
or get the latest version 3.2.1 http://sourceforge.net/projects/ooop/ Last Update: 2013-05-01

I was just using a few OxygenOffice extensions with OpenOffice. I've never used OxygenOffice. I switched from MS Office (Office 2000) to OpenOffice.org years ago. :super:
