Issues with installing under all versions of MS Windows

[Solved] All files locked after update to 4.1.1

Postby Barns » Tue Aug 26, 2014 8:43 am

Hi,

I installed the 4.1.1 update offered through the programme yesterday only to find that all my files were "Locked for editing by Unknown User". No hidden lock files to delete. Could not open copy and then just save over the old one since it would not let me save to desktop. I have ownership and full permissions etc for the desktop and all other desktop items had no problem so it was only OO files.

Uninstalled and reinstalled 4.0.1 today and all back to normal.

Any ideas? Or am I just stuck with 4.0.1 and I can never upgrade again?

OS: Windows 8.1

Thanks in advance.

I suggest you do a fresh download only from
http://www.openoffice.org/download
which will redirect you to SourceForge servers where the files are stored. The download will start in about five seconds - no need to click on anything. If in any doubt about the download integrity, either as a good download or as valid file from Apache OpenOffice, check it using the methods set out here
http://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html

I did a fresh download and install and had the same problem.

However, I found that the problem was Comodo blocking soffice.bin and once I had added that to Trusted Files I was able to open my documents OK.

Maybe this will help someone else out there with the same problem.

I really think Apache and Comodo need to have a chat about this. I've seen similar before with OpenOffice and seen that others have had similar problems. Comodo still sees OpenOffice as a programme from an Unidentified Publisher and you have to tell it to "trust it" with "Unlimited Access" which always sounds worrying!
