[Solved] Special Characters

Post by mhdraperme »

I'd like to be able to assign special characters or symbols to keys for use with Calc. For example, that little circle used to represent degrees or the symbol used for cents.

How would you suggest I proceed?

Thanks.

Hold down the ALT key , type in 167 , release the ALT key....the "degree" symbol should appear.

Tried that in both Writer and Calc. Didn't work. Thanks for the link to the ASCII code tables.

Note I'm using Window Vista Business, Service Pack 2. Apache Open Office 4.1.0

For ALT + 167 I find that I have to use the numbers on my key pad (actually the equivalent keys on my lap top). You can also use the Compose Special Characters extension to insert symbols with dedicated key strokes.

You might find that you have to type an extra 0 with the number, again using the numeric keypad, thus making the key combination ALT+0167
