[Solved] Problems with java jre on Ubuntu 12.10 and OO 4.01

Post by Josep »

I have installed Apache 4.01 OO in My Computer Without problems, but now When I try to use Base the program gives me an error message:

"OO need JRE Java Runtime envoriment".
But I have installed JRE 7.
I tried to configure OO, but does not recognize my JRE java

I have searched on the internet, But I could not find what is the path to the virtual machine or what package I need to fix the problem

My OS is Ubuntu 12.10 64b with desktop Cinamon
Please I need to use Base Could anyone can help me?

Thanks

In OpenOffice, under /Tools/ Options/ OpenOffice : Java, is the installed Java showing up and selected?

No, I have tried to add Java, under:
/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle/jre/
but always is comming out a warning with the message that the folder doesn't have a Java Runtime envoriment.

I will try to install another java version, but I worry that if I install another Java version maybe I will have problems with other programs.

I don't know what to do.

[Excuse me, I would add some images, but I don't know how to add images/ pictures to the messages.]

Try adding OpenJDK-7 using Synaptic or the Ubuntu Softtware Centre. Let one of those applications do the task for you, rather than trying to hand install it.

Perhaps you have installed a 32 bit OpenOffice on a 64 bit Ubuntu? To find the bitness of Ubuntu, in a terminal type

Code: Select all

getconf LONG_BIT
As all linux commands, case is important
Edit: I note from your first post that you are using 64 bit Ubuntu
In OpenOffice, /Help /About OpenOffice will show something like (for 64 bit)

Code: Select all

AOO401m5(Build:9714) - Rev. 1524958
2013-09-20 11:54 - Linux x86_64
I haven't a 32 bit OpenOffice nearby to check its report.

That's was. I have uninstalled and installed the 64 bit version and now I have 4 java options to select:
Oracle Corporation 1.7.0_51
Oracle Corporation 1.7.0_51 (twice???)
Oracle Corporation 1.7.0_17
Sun Microsystems Inc. 1.6.0_30
:bravo: :super:
But now it is going very slowly. Base needed more than one or two minuts to open a table and if I try to do any think the program become blocked.
I have seen that the proces "soffice.bin" used the full CPU. That is very strange then I have a good PC.
Any where, Thank you very much for helping me.
