Ralf

Hallo to everyone!

I am new here in the forum. I use Open Office 2.4.0 as my Office Software. I use a normal PC AMD 5200+ and I use Ms Windows XP Pro and an altos easy store from Acer for the datamanagement.

I have the problem that anything what I want to save on the PC ore on the easy store is just a file (with out .odt, if I wanted to save it as an .odt, with .ott, .doc or .pdf it is the same. I just get a file with "nothing". If I try to save the file as an pdf, i can not open it as a pdf.

I tried to repair OpenOffice 2.4. nothing changed. I deinstalled, rebooted and reinstalled Open Office 2.4, but nothing changed.
I can not produce any new file as .odt, .ott, .doc or .pdf anymore.

A few days ago I had no problems, everything worked well and I used OpenOffice a few month until now (2.3.0, 2.3.1 and 2.4.0).

Can somebody help me? I did not find any simular topic. Do somebody has the same problems?

hopefully somebody can help,

Ralf

Even if you saved files without or with wrong file name extensions, the files have the right content. The extension is nothing more than a flag for file managers such as Windows explorer to show a distinct icon and feed the file into the right default application on double-click. The extension has no influence on the actual content of the file. You can pull any of those files into OOo via Menu:File>Open... or via drag&drop. OOo is quite smart in detecting file formats by content. It does not need the suffix when you throw a file at it. A decent pdf-reader should be able to open valid pdf documents without .pdf suffix as well.
