Overriding fonts problem

Post by Vareg »

Hi everyone,

I'm using OpenOffice 4.0.1 under Fedora 19, and so far I have been having this weird problem that fonts in dropdown lists (in fact in any field) are overriding themselves. Best is to show captures of that issue.

It does this every time i am trying to edit a field value, whatever the menu and in Writer just the same as in Calc...

EDIT: I should mention too that...once a field has become blurred, and if i highlight that field with the mouse, it becomes clear again

Has anyone got an idea at to what's going on here?

Thanks in advance for your help

Are you using the default desktop theme? Your screen captures look different than what I'm used to seeing (different fonts & colors).

Well I believe yeah I do, I'm using Gnome 3.8.4 and haven't done anything to alter default theme anywhere, except for selecting a background picture. But are you then implying there's a theme selection feature right in OO?

Certain changes in Icon style and size are available in /Tools /options /OpenOffice /View; in general OpenOffice screens are affected by the choice of desktop theme used for the operating system.

Okay I see but then the short answer is no I haven't done anything to my default gnome configuration, I haven't any gtk conf either, so that's why I don't understand. Again, the only thing i did was to modify my background picture so I mean it should not lead to that, should it?

It would be useful to know what theme was selected on your computer. On my Xubuntu systems this is the choice on Style tab on Appearance setting. I don't know what it is on Fedora - possibly similar.

Actually the closest gui tool i have that can possibly help me answer your question is the gnome-tweak-tool, and it tells, from the theme tab, that my icon theme is gnome(default), that my gtk+ theme is adwaita(default), cursor theme also is adwaita while the gtk+binding theme is referenced as default

I have never used Ubuntu, I have been using redhat-based products for years and years though, either with kde or gnome lately

Speaking about redhat-based OS's, i remember now that the same font problem occured on my HP g6 2333er while I was running CentOS 6.4 x86_64 for a while. That's gotta tell something

I have migrated my Ubuntu machines, which used Classic Gnome to Xubuntu; The only Gnome machine left is the house server. I'll fiddle with its display to try to match your settings, but it wont be for about 48 hours.

I had this same problem with vanilla Fedora 20/Gnome 3.

I found the solution in this thread for dark themes fixed the problem.

TLDR; Add 'export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen' to ~/.bash_profile. It modified the menus slightly but at least they are readable.
