[Solved] Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
Yep, really slow... but I cannot do anything about that. At least (it seems) the captcha problem is solved.

Speed is good now!
Edit: The only rectification needed is to get the logged-on statistics to match previous statistics, otherwise the statistical history becomes discontinuous. |

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
Have just noticed that there is a posting for this log in problem
I did not notice that there was a problem with the logging in over the week-end, but got caught by the captcha.
I am aware of the secure server url.
Had a problem viewing and logging in today. very very slow.... for a text? only forum, very strange.
Could understand if it was a high volume HD video download site but it is not.
Hope this can be fixed soon

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
The captcha is gone and the speed is surely improved a lot since last Sunday evening. I think it is still a bit slower then 1 or 2 weeks ago with http protocol. But it is surely acceptable if we keep in mind that the forum was extremely response in the last 3 months (maybe due to some changes in the server infrastructure by the Apache team?).
Thanks for your efforts, RGB. Well done.

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
I have started to monitor forum statistics for 7 days, as before. First 24 hours shows them exactly as expected, so the changes and the awkwardnesses we are experiencing are not affecting traffic significantly, if at all.

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
Second 24 hours of monitoring statistics shows them exactly in line with my findings in September. I won't report again until the end of the seven day period. The recent changes seem to have made`no difference to Forum traffic.

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
I've monitored Forum statistics for an exact seven day period, from 07:41 on 05 Nov 2013 to 07:41 on 12 Nov 2013, so that the figures are comparable with earlier monitoring at end of September.
So the figures are slightly down at present. This may be seasonal. I did not keep per diem figures but I remember that my first two days' monitoring of the November period showed them in line with the earlier, so there may have been a slowup over the past weekend.

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
Nov. 11 was a Federal holiday in the USA. In addition to government offices, many schools are closed and perhaps some businesses. That might lower the post count slightly.

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
Also UK and some European countries celebrate Remembrance Day/Armistice Day on 11 November and the closest weekend, so that may slow the count. I think the figures are reasonably close to previous.

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
It should be OK now. The security settings on FR forum was to limit login attempts by IP address, but now because of the proxy all users have the same IP so I changed the settings to use X_FORWARDED_FOR header instead (this setting is working here and on the ES forums without problems).gerard24 wrote:3 volonteers report today the same problem on French Forum.

That needs to be changed on the php config files, only Imacat (or someone with root access) can do that.Bidouille wrote:Why not extend this parameter to registered users also?

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
We really do need to get this done, so that online forum statistics revert to previous values.

Then, someone needs to take the lead and contact the right person. As I said before, only a person with root access can do this work.RoryOF wrote:We really do need to get this done, so that online forum statistics revert to previous values.

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
Just wondering if the suggestion posted on 6 NOV 13 to replace the variable REMOTE_ADDR with HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR in one line in session.php corrected the proxy IP problem on this server.

Re: Maximum number of Login attempts exceeded
Not yet due to lack of admin.
But this in under progress, there was some discussion on the dev mailing list and we should get an updated team of sysadmin. We already have a todo list then.

And the statistics are back as a consequence.
I've seen that Jan made many changes to the wiki and the forum yesterday evening. Many thanks indeed!
I'll tag this topic as solved for the moment.
