[Issue] Openoffice.org 3 - problem opening an RTF

Hello all,

Let me apologise in advance if this is the wrong place to write this question! However, I thought that this forum would be the most appropriate place to consult people before posting a bug report.

My problem is with OpenOffice.org 3 beta on Ubuntu GNU/Linux 7.04 (Feisty) i386
. I have various cv files in RTF -- I append a number to the file to give it a 'version'. My latest one, "6.4", fails to open in OpenOffice.org 3 beta but can be opened in OpenOffice 2.2 (the repository version). I created this RTF with OpenOffice 2.3 (running on Ubuntu GNU/Linux 7.10 (Gutsy) amd64) if my memory serves me correctly. All my previous 'versions' of CV open with OOo 3 beta.

When OOo 3 beta attempts to open this RTF file, Writer simply shows a blank document. I shall try to see if the same problem occurs with OOo3 beta on my Gutsy amd64 computer.

I was wondering if I should file a bug report if this error is reproducible? I am not willing to attach my CV in its current form, but if I can strip the addresses out of it and still reproduce the error, I shall attach it later. (Out of interest, if I open this CV file in OOo 2.2, strip the address then save it as RTF, it does open in OOo 3 beta!)

You can use a plain text editor (gedit, vim, notepad, etc.) to remove the confidential information. Then, report the bug to http://qa.openoffice.org . As you have done here, indicate it is a regression.

Hehe, forgot about the venerable text editor! Okay I shall do so! But RTFs in text editors look scary... all those tags...

Yes, even with my private fields stripped does the problem occur. See the attached file.

Same for me, the document is blank, either with the Ubuntu or the Sun version (2.4). You should file a bug report and attach your file I think.

After you stare at them long enough, they look normal.
