Latest PDF Import for OpenOffice 4 doesn't work

Post by nissi »

Hi

Why does the latest pdf import extension (update) for openoffice 4 not work? The older version v1.0.4 for previous openoffice versions doesn't work with the latest openoffice 4. When I try to import, it only brings up the ASCII filter options window up. What do I do? Or what can be done? Please assist. This greatly frustrating!!

The version for AOO 4.0 is at

There have been code changes in AOO 4.0 which affect some extensions.

I did install this version, you mentioned. But this one also doesn't work, I keep one getting the asii filter option window, instead of it opening the pdf as in the older versions.

I've just tried, using the linux version as I am working on an Ubuntu machine. It opens a .pdf file correctly for me. I suggest you verify that you have downloaded the correct version for your Operating System.

o,ok. I will check again. I'm using windows 8 pro. on the download page, it only shows "windows", linux and so on and not the supported versions of windows it supports. This maybe the cause? Otherwise I'll have to resort back to the previous version.

I've tried everything. I did check that I install the correct pdf importer version for the latest open office 4 and also the correct one for windows, But still pdf importer doesn't work in open office in windows 8pro. I had to uninstall open office 4 and reinstall the previous version as the previous version of pdf importer worked without any issues. Please assist or how can the pdf importer for open office 4 be fixed?

You can file a bug report and attach a PDF file that doesn't work for you so that someone can try on Windows 8: [Tutorial] Reporting bugs or suggestions.

I seem to be having this issue (not sure if it's entirely the same), but seeing that the last post dates back 2 years ago... it's got to be my install...

...anyway, i'm not sure how to describe my issue so i attached a screenshot of what happens when i import (drag-drop/open) a pdf file to OOo...
pdfOOo-cropped.jpg
i'm running an old system (Vista) with all the updates available.

OOo is :

4.1.1. AOO411m6(Build:9775) - Rev. 1617669
2014-08-13 09:06:54 (Mi, 13 Aug 2014)

pdf import extension 0.1.0

I've tried the oracle version and it didn't matter because it gives me an error - to which i found the former to be the solution.

Anyway, I did get my task done using a chrome extension (not fun either)... but this is more for curiosity's sake.

This is not the same issue since in your case there is something imported.
The import feature is not 100% guaranteed, this is a kind of reverse engineering of the print language. For complex layouts, I doubt it can do better.
In most cases, it's faster to redesign the file by yourself.
