ASCII filter

Hi all,

I have a calc/spreadsheet document that seems to have been corrupted. When I try to open it I get an ASCII filter dialogue box. Is there someway to recover it? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Can you upload it if there is no sensitive data (see How to attach a document here)?
Do you save in ODF (.ods)?
If you open the file, do you get hashes (#####)?

The ASCII dialogue box comes up and it converts the file to all hash marks. I don't remember what I could have done to cause it. It had been saved to an external hard drive. Any advice is appreciated.

The external hard drive may have been removed too quickly, or without observing the USB removal protocol. The file you uploaded is an incomplete archive, whih would support either of the two above suppositions. I can get nothing out of it, but best to wait for another opinion.

Sadly, quite nothing to do, see: 22 pages term paper replaced with pound signs.
The file seems indeed empty.

Check the temporary folder of the system (see in OOo Tools>Options>OOo>Paths). If there are folders like sgmlf.tmp with a file having the same name inside, make a copy of that file, rename it in .ods and cross your fingers. If you have not rebooted, you might have those files still there.
