Search engine is not selective

Post by TAB »

Hello!
It seems your search engine is not selective enough. Eg, I searched for 'wq1 files' and got 26648 matches (wow! attached), but most of them (if not all; I did not check...) contained only 'files'. Would not a 'match' consist of 'wq1' AND 'files'?

The Forum search engine needs more than three characters (i.e, four or more) as otherwise the searches would consume too many resources. If you need three character searches, use your favourite search engine and constrain it to the Forum url.

Or use the custom search engine at the forums landing pages, it's very efficient and it does look for 3 characters or less strings: http://forum.openoffice.org

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the edit button if your issue has been fixed.
