OpenOffice Writer 3.4.1 (and previously a 3.3.x) on Windows 7 64:
I have had a number of file recovery failures. These are and were not critical files and some have been completely deleted. I'm content to let them fall into the depths of time. But when I have a forced restart (confound Windows!) or other forced shutdown with OOWriter open and it runs its recovery, the old failures are listed. Moreover, they are listed first, and OOWriter always tries to recover the files. They crowd out the list of "real" recoveries in the visible part of the scrollable panel.
How can I convince OOWriter that these are failed forever, gone, beyond hope of recovery, no longer in the universe of things to try, etc.?

OO Writer:No Selective Cancel in Recovery(more acute in wind
The CANCEL worked.
The problem appears to be that you cannot cancel individual recoveries, only the whole process. Here's the full scenario:
I have Writer and some files open and forget to hibernate the Windows machine. I return to find that the Windows has rudely rebooted for a critical update and I have to recover my files. The old, failed-faulty-should-be-abandoned recoveries appear with my working files, which must be recovered, so I cannot cancel. OOWriter recovers the current files, complains that it cannot recover the old ones, and I have my files open to work. The only way to get back to the recovery to re-run it and cancel is to shut down all the open files and then re-open them, one at a time (since AFAIK you can't select a group and open it on one click). On the first re-open, you get the recovery panel with the previously failed recoveries and you can cancel the lot.
This I have done; it worked.
But this problem is far more acute on Windows than on open-source systems because of the prediliction of Windows for the indiscriminate mass killing of processes for its own purposes at its own timing. Selective recovery/cancel (via checkboxes in the scrollable list?) or the ability to edit the recovery list while OOwriter has files open would be helpful, and are desirable. Or at least, I desire them.
Thanks for the helpful replies.

Change your Windows update settings to this: You are now in control of the update process. It becomes your choice when to do the installation.
