[Solved] Trying to insert .PDF

Post by pooky2483 »

I am trying to insert .pdf documents into writer but I’m having problems, I *think* I have the PDF add-on installed (see screenshot)
But I don’t know how to use it.
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and Libreoffice Version 3.6.4.3 (Build ID: 2ef5aff)
Is the pdf add-on compatible with my version of Writer?

*SORRY IF THIS IS IN THE WRONG AREA*

You can only use Draw for the PDF files and the editing is very limited. If you need to edit PDF files use a dedicated PDF editor.

I dont want to edit the pdf's, just insert them inline with my text in writer.

The easiset way is to convert them into a graphics format (.tif/.png/jpg) in an external application such as Gimp.

As explained above, it allows you to edit (in a minimal way) PDFs within Draw.

What's your purpose for inserting the pdf? Is it a graphic you need? Or do you want the reader of your document to be able to refer to the pdf document. The former may work with the extension: just insert the pdf in Draw, then copy/paste it into Writer. You may need to use Paste Special as embedded object (I think that's shown as "Draw 8" maybe?). It's likely to be simpler just to use an image instead of the pdf in this case, as already mentioned.

If you just want to provide the pdf along with your document, OOo has no support for that. You just have to provide it as a separate file.

You will have to open each PDF with Draw. Then copy and paste into Writer. I don't think you will find the result very satisfactory.

Depending on the complexity of the PDF layouts, it may be quicker to just copy paste their content and reproduce their formatting.
Or export them as pictures to be inserted if you want a 100% fidelity.

Please add '[Solved]' at the beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

I think that's what I'm going to have to do, convert them to .jpg's and put them in like that.
