Hi I need a speech to text application fore OpenOffice.org running on Fedora 8 Linux.
I don't have much money so Id like it to be free without buying ViaVoice.
i need this because my father has trouble typing since an accident with a plow.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Entering the search-string "naturally speaking" will result in a list of 23 entries.
Unfortunately Linux-tools seem to be seldom.
There is a number of threads describing the NUANCE-tool "Dragon", which is claimed to be a Windows-only application. As a search string you might enter "dragon" (and maybe additionally "linux").
I use DragonNS, but both it and ViaVoice are only available for Windows platforms. I don't think that either will run under cross talk, because as part of the package they closely integrate with OS and are aware of key applications such as Outlook and MSOffice. Think about it: they convert speech into commands, mouse actions and spoken text. Maybe in the future someone might bring out a sophisticatedly speech recognition package for Linux, but its not there yet.
Ubuntu 11.04-x64 + LibreOffice 3 and MS free except the boss's Notebook which runs XP + OOo 3.3.
