OpenOffice for iMac

Having downloaded Apache Open Office Mac version, I find my Mac will
not allow me to open and install it, is there anyway I am able to use OO on an iMac.?
I am relatively new to an Apple pc,and still finding my way around. I never had any problems with Open Office on a Windows
computer. Any help will be appreciated.
