Does your browser have a download manager? That should tell you where each downloaded file was saved; it may even give you a link to "open" the downloaded file. That should be all you need to start the install.

If it does I can't find it Do you think this is not a good idea for a novice computer user to download this program?

Depends. ;)

You give very little information. Please tell us what browser you use. Look in the Options dialog box of your browser. It will have a text box with the name of the path where it stores downloaded files. If you use Windows, you can also open the Explorer, click Find, enter "OOo_2.3.1_" in the search box (without the quotation marks) and let it search your entire hard disk. It's bound to find it.

Go back to the download site and repeat the download process until you get to the Save As dialog which should open to the folder where the download will be saved. Make a note of the folder. If the file has already been downloaded, you should see it in the Save As dialog. If so, then just cancel the download.
