Sorry, your file contains no recoverable data--it's all zeros.

Re-type the file or recover from your last backup copy. Sorry.

Re: File corrupted showing symbols: #####
Sadly, quite nothing to do, see: 22 pages term paper replaced with pound signs.
Any power shortage for example? It's a common root cause of such problem.
Check the temporary folder of the system (see in OOo Tools>Options>OOo>Paths). If there are folders like sgmlf.tmp with a file having the same name inside, make a copy of that file, rename it in .odt and cross your fingers. Else, I hope you had a backup (or a copy in a mailbox)...
I think there are less reports about such problems, do you confirm you were using AOO 3.4.1? That would be the first case.
3rd topic about that problem within 2 days, after a long period without any problem.

What was the version used at last save?
No, I can't see how word count would have corrupted the file.

Now, go immediately in OpenOffice to /Tools /Options /Load-Save :General and check the "Always create backup copy" checkbox.

You've been lucky, very often users reboot and it cleans the temporary files!
