Software for making templates

Post by crl »

There are hundreds of templates that users have kindly uploaded to the Template repository -- but never the one I'm looking for ;)

That's perfectly normal for a widely-used office package; everybody has different needs and wishes.

Making a template that's consistent and reliable is quite difficult. The scientific company I used to work for had a specialist team to write templates for M$ office. They added useful things like buttons (controls) for commonly used styles. All this is beyond most non-geek users.

Even free software needs, as it were, a selling point, and I was wondering whether it would be possible to have a "build-your-own" template module for Ooo. Rather than explaining what I'd like, I'd refer readers to website building packages such as TOWeb (http://www.lauyan.com/ ) There's a free version that inserts some harmless adverts.

Of course, wordprocessor templates are likely to be more difficult than that, but if you don't ask you won't get...

Nobody needs buttons for commonly used styles and templates. If those payed task forces kept you away from actually using MS Office then you need to hire another team of well paid experts for your own set of templates.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

It's a lot easier to build templates on Writer than on Word, if you know how styles work (and you should know how styles work if you want to use templates!). There is no need for an extra app when you only need to do a File → Templates → Save after building your custom reference file.
There are two types of people: those who believe that there are two types of people and those who do not.
