Publish to Kindle

Post by sfg511 »

In the instructions for publishing to a Kindle device, the preferred program is Word. I do not own a current copy of word, but the Kindle instructions mention that OpenOffice can also be utilized.

My problem occurs when I attempt to preview photographs which have been inserted into my text. They do not appear in the Kindle preview window, rather a symbol of a camera with an exclamation point.

The instructions for Word reads...
"In save as dialogue screen click FORMAT...choose HTML...In the lower portion of the save as dialogue screen , click on the radio button "save only display information into HTML".

It seems that now there should be 2 files; one for text, and one for photos. I can't accomplish this in OpenOffice. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest another solution. Make a book in FictionBook2 format [1] using OOoFBTools extension to OOo [2] and convert it to MOBI using Calibre [3]. Or install CoolReader to read FB2 on Kindle without conversion.

In my case I use ePub export extension and would then use Calibre to convert to mobi.
