New URLs for several services

Post by RGB »

In parallel to the old url for different services, we have now new and shorter ones

For example, together with

Code: Select all

http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/
to enter the forum we can also use

http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/

Both directions, the "old" and the new one work the same way and if you publish on one of them the content will be also available on the other: both point to the same IP

Other simplified addresses are

Wiki: http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Main_Page (former wiki.services.openoffice.org)

Extensions: http://extensions.openoffice.org/ (former extensions.services.openoffice.org)

Templates: http://templates.openoffice.org/ (former templates.services.openoffice.org)
There are two types of people: those who believe that there are two types of people and those who do not.

I've updated all the links of the forum indexes (that point to wiki, extensions and templates).

Since I have switched to the new URLs the automatic log-on feature does not work. (Check : Log me on automatically each visit)

Indeed, there are strange results: if I click the link to the survival guide that is on the main index page (even if I'm currently on the forum/... domain), I appear as logged out (I've the option to log in top right) but I'm still logged in for the forum (avatar shows online).

I'm not at home so can't try but perhaps some cache needs to be cleared (I've already tried to delete board cookies, no change).

AFAIK, even if both addresses point to the same IP things like cookies and alike will differentiate between both URL, so you'll need to re-set your automatic log-in on the new URL.

The automatic logon does not work for me with the new URLs (english forum and french forum).
It does work with the old URLs.

I logged off the old URLs, then logged in on the new URLs, with automatic logon. Even if I only stay on the board index, if I browse another web site and return I have to log on again. That's not acceptable.

The cookies are different, since when logging again at an old URL the number of new messages was different from the new URL. So the problem may be in the handling of the cookies with the new URLs.

Now working for me, Bernard, on two computers (both Ubuntu) using the new URL for this (en) forum. I've exited Firefox and restarted and it automatically logged me in.
Edit: Later: this occurs when the cookie has not been erased from the cache; after a short delay one does have to log in again.

Still doesn't work for me, especially if I click links.
Can you try to click the survival guide link in the main index?

According to a quick search, the cookies domain needs to be changed in the forum settings. NB: I don't have access to this level of configuration.
Edit: Will PM imacat in a while about that if no change.

OK, it has now stopped working! It did work on this computer earlier today.

Verified. This is really strange, as the other part user.services.openoffice.org works fine.
Still looking.

Because the cookies are set for the user.services... domain and not forum...
I found that on the web after searching about the sid=b839980c52aad54b13e7b9ac54e3a135 (or any other random number) string that appears when I'm logged in the forum address.

For information: Both URLs seem to be forgetting the "automatic log-on request" as of now Sunday 19 August 2012 at 06:45 UTC [DST]. They have been doing this on my systems for about 24 hours.

Automatic login works with the old user.services address.
I think we have to wait for imacat action.
