[Solved] ERROR: An error occured during registration

Post by rodf22 »

Hello,

I can't get OpenOffice v3.4 to install. It completes almost all of the installation and then pops up an error window stating...

"ERROR: An error occured during registration of extensions!" - yes, occurred is spelled wrong

What can I do to get it to actually install?

Thanks,

Rod

Are you installing Apache OpenOffice 3.4, or the earlier Oracle OpenOffice 3.4 beta? Are you installing over an earlier version? If so, you may need to remove or rename your User Profile
The User Profile
as this new OpenOffice may be trying to pick up an existing extension, which could be incompatible with the newer version. AOO3.4 is so recent that we are not fully aware of extension incompatibilities, of which there are some.

I'm trying to install Apache OpenOffice 3.4 and yes I'm trying to install it over OpenOffice 3.3, which, according to my Programs & Features, is no longer installed.

As suggested, I renamed my User Profile directory and retried an installation. Same error as before.

Any other ideas?

Once again, the drastic option! Use Revo Uninstaller at most aggressive settings to remove AOO and earlier OOo, restart computer then try a clean install on AOO 3.4. With modern download managers there is usually no question of a corrupt download, but it _can_ happen. The test for this is to check the MD5Sum on the downloaded file
How to verify your download

I have known a file to appear corrupt on a computer because of hardware fault (loose disk connector), but this was on a very old computer which had been salvaged from a skip (US: dumpster). That computer is now working OK after connection remade.

Hello,

did you succeed in installing 3.4? Is there a solution for this or a workaround?

I experience the same. Close to the end of the installation, I get the error message: "ERROR: An error occured during registration of extensions!". Then setup is rolling back all actions and OpenOffice is not installed.

This happed the first time, when trying to update from version 3.4 to 3.4.1. I still have the setup of version 3.4 available and tried to install the 3.4 version. This is now ending with the same message. Is there any information available, what I can do to get it installed? What is causing that error?

This is on Windows 7 64Bit system.

Thanks for any help!

Finally I succeeded in installing. I restarted (again, did this also before, no other application is running). Then I took the typical install and left the checkbox checked to add a Desktop icon.
I always unchecked the add Desktop icon checkbox in every try before.

Could this cause such a behaviour?

If not, it is quite strange and I can't explain, why I succeeded finally after so many trys.

Checking/unchecking the add Desktop icon should not affect the install process. The typical install, done in some cases immediately after a reboot, seems to cure a lot of installation problems.

The only way I was able to install was to allow it to use the C: drive path for installation. I wanted to install to my D: drive, but even after I upgraded my motherboard and CPU and did a fresh installation of the OS I would get the same error as before. As soon as I allowed for C: path, installation all went smoothly, though I didn't want to give up that much space on my small boot partition.

Just in case anyone who encounter the same hopeless, helpless, frustrated situation in dealing with "ERROR: An error occured during registration of extensions!", here is my sharing.

encounter this error when upgrade from OO3.x to 4.1.1

what i had tried in the last 3 days:
completely uninstall OO
deleted open office directory in c:\Program files
deleted open office directory in c:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming
install with log in as administrator
reinstall OO3.4
install in safe mode
deactivate all firewall and anti-virus software then install (some trials with internet connection off)

ALL DIDN'T WORK!!!

Finally, I chose custom installation and installed OO on c:\ (Root in C), it worked.

Good luck!!!

I concur, installing at C:\ works.
