How do I recover a file?

Post by sunami »

I was working OpenOffice writer when my notebook started whirring loudly and the screen froze. I had to End Task and I lost all of my work for the day! I am very keen to recover it, can someone please tell me how? Any help will be much appreciated, I am not an expert! Thanks.

Just run OOo again. It will ask if you want to recover the file.

That may not work, or may not actually recover all of you work, but it's certainly worth a try.

Thanks, but I did that immediately after it happened and none of my work was there. This is such a huge bummer.

What OS ? Please read the Survival Guide for the forum for next threads.

Had you rebooted ? With some OS (but not Windows), the temporary folder is cleaned at start up, so you can't recover the files afterwards.

You can still see in your OOo user profile if there is a backup (option had to be activated in Tools>Options>Load/Save and Create a backup. You'll find the path of the backup folder in Tools>Options>OOo>Paths.

Thanks Hagar, I have since re-done all of my work. I have now activated the back up from you instructions so it won't happen again. Thanks for helping.
