[Solved] OpenOffice.org 3 fails to start
[Solved] OpenOffice.org 3 fails to start
Hi,
I have installed openoffice3 onto my laptop running PCLinuxOS but the programs fail to start.
The error I get in the konsole is:
/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libuno_sal.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
But libuno_sal.so.3 is installed and is in:
[me@linuxlaptop program]$ locate libuno_sal.so.3
/usr/lib/ooo-2.3/program/libuno_sal.so.3
Can anyone tell me where OOo3 is looking for that particular shared library please?
Thanks in advance

Re: OpenOffice 3 fails to start
Which looks like it belongs to OOo version 2.3, and probably isn't going to help with OOo version 3But libuno_sal.so.3 is installed and is in:
...
/usr/lib/ooo-2.3/program/libuno_sal.so.3
The install layout has changed for OOo3; I find that library in .../openoffice.org/ure/lib/libuno_sal.so.3

Re: OpenOffice 3 fails to start
Thanks for replying. The ooo-2.3 is the only one installed on my system. Turns out that the package openoffice.org-ure-1.4.0-9358.i586.rpm wasnt installed when I ran setup. Installed it separately and its all working ok.acknak wrote:Which looks like it belongs to OOo version 2.3, and probably isn't going to help with OOo version 3But libuno_sal.so.3 is installed and is in:

Ok, that matches what I see also. Good work.
Thanks for the follow-up.
One question: do you know how/why you missed installing that package?

No idea I simply ran the file /~/Documents/OOO300_m9_native_packed-1_en-US.9358/setup and for some reason it missed itacknak wrote:Ok, that matches what I see also. Good work.

Re: [Solved] OpenOffice 3 fails to start
There are several threads here showing troubles when installing from that script. Better use the package manager instead.

Re: [Solved] OpenOffice 3 fails to start
Thanks Hagar - unfortunately OOo3 isnt in the PCLinuxOS repositories yet so I had to install it separately. Not ideal I know but I will replace it when version 3 is in there.Hagar de l'Est wrote:There are several threads here showing troubles when installing from that script. Re: [Solved] OpenOffice 3 fails to start
This happened to me. When I installed the RPMS, I must have used a wildcard for openoffice.org3*.
openoffice.org-ure-1.4.1-9379.i586.rpm is the only one without .org3 so it wasn't installed. Didn't notice till now.

Hi,
I am completely new to the world of Linux installation and troubleshooting in the sense I have just installed Fedora 11 on my desktop. I have been using unix/linux for long time.
Could someone tell me how to install the package which contains libuno_sal.so.3. I am getting the same issue mentioned in this topic:
[prashant@grebo ~]$ soffice
/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libuno_sal.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[prashant@grebo ~]$ locate libuno_sal.so.3
/opt/openoffice.org2.4/program/libuno_sal.so.3
/opt/openoffice.org2.4/program/libuno_sal.so.3.1.1
/usr/lib/openoffice.org/ure/lib/libuno_sal.so.3
Thanks in advance

Re: [Solved] OpenOffice 3 fails to start
How have you installed OOo? From the distro packages or from the official RPMs?

Re: [Solved] OpenOffice 3 fails to start
I downloaded the openoffice 3.1.0 from www.openoffice.org and used the setup script (found in the downloaded package) to install it.

Don't use the script. Uninstall and use your package manager to install the tarball. Search for Fedora topics in the Linux forum here.

Re: [Solved] OpenOffice 3 fails to start
I've just got to install OpenOffice 3.1.1 in Debian.
Just install ooobasis3.1-*.deb packages before install openoffice.org*.deb packages, that is:
# dpkg -i --force-overwrite ooobasis3.1-*.deb
# dpkg -i --force-overwrite openoffice.org*.deb

Re: [Solved] OpenOffice 3 fails to start
okay, i'm also having the problem of loading Open office 3.2 on my Fedora Core 13 Desktop.
the error I get is:
/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libuno_sal.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
however, it appears to be in: /usr/lib/openoffice.org/ure/lib
and when i tried to reinstall the openoffice.org-ure-1.6.1-9502.i586.rpm package it appears it has been overwritten by a newer one:
rpm -Uvih openoffice.org-ure-1.6.1-9502.i586.rpm

package openoffice.org-ure-1:3.2.0-12.31.fc13.i686 (which is newer than openoffice.org-ure-1.6.1-9502.i586) is already installed
could the newer one that was updated be pointing to the wrong location?

Re: [Solved] OpenOffice 3 fails to start
Is there some particular reason that you want to use the OO.org build? I usually recommend that people just use the OOo that Fedora provides: it's easier to install/upgrade.

Re: [Solved] OpenOffice 3 fails to start
Hi,
I am not expert, so neglect if i missed any obvious thing.
I have installed OpenOffice 3.3 on Fedora 14 x86_64 using RPM. I also faced problem with libuno*.so.3, but i was able to solve it by adding the path into LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Now I am able to run it only by command line, not from menu. I think, it is because i need to change/add the same path in some configuration/setup file as well.
Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.

I missed the obvious thing. RESTART your system.
It runs now. Solved.

This is the second time I got into this thread as everytime I install Openoffice 3.3 on Fedora 14 I have the same issue. I'll paste here my solution so next time it will be easier to resolve (for me an others)
An after that, it works! At least for me...

This was great infomation, thank you. I have a very similar problem though, and your information didn't solve it for me. After URE updated, office won't work. I created a new thread.
