Default font size in spreadsheet

I followed the Help directions and set the default font in a text file but still cannot get the font size I want (12) to show up by default in a new spreadsheet. What am I missing? Suggestions?

Do it this way: in Calc press F11 to open Styles and Formatting Window. Press first icon from left on top bar of that window and right click on Default. Select Modify, Font tab, select your desired font and size, press OK. All should now be correct - you will observe the cell heights change to reflect the new font size.
