[Solved] Selected jre is defective

Post by snide23 »

I have recently installed OpenOffice 3.3. I am getting the following popup whenever I attempt to open a table, form, etc in Base: "OpenOffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - Java."
I am running Java 6 Update 24 on Windows XP.

I suspect you need to open the Java section under options and select the update 24 specifically.

Uninstall the JRE and download and install a fresh copy of the JRE.

Didn't need to reinstall. A reboot solved my problem, which is something I thought I had already done. Thanks for the replies.

I have the same problem, and re-booting does not help. I have tried uninstalling Java, and then re-installing it, and the problem appears to be solved, but only temporarily. The problem recurs, and I have to uninstall Java and re-install. I am using OpenOffice 3.3 on Windows XP.

I have a similar problem. When I try to create a new database file, I received the "No JRE Installed" message. I can rename my profile folder or reinstall OO and it works, but recurs the next time I create a db file. ??

I'm experiencing the same thing.

I just installed OpenOffice, tryed to open a connection to MySQL, was told there was no JRE, installed Java 1.7.0_15, which OpenOffice 'sees', yet now am receiving the message, "selected JRE is defective".

Not so sure it's the JRE that's defective!

What architecture for JRE 32bit? Have you tried the links provided in the other topic?
