[Solved] Writer saves only as generic "file"

When I save a file in Writer -- as an .odt or anything on the "save as" list -- it saves as a generic "file".

When I click on the file, Windows Vista presents me with a dialogue box asking me which program I want to open the file with. Works fine when I select the OpenOffice icon.

How do I get Writer to save as an .odt file? Can't figure it out.

Hope this hasn't been asked too many times, but did not find it doing searches.

Solved it. did a better job of searching -- and checked the "automatic file name extension".
