Loss of data in OOo Calc

Post by mcpalbir »

I have lost all data in a calc file, the file opens with only a blank spreadsheet. my other files in the same folder are fine. I have just updated to oo3.3. I have successfully used oo for 6 years with no problem. I am not expert but have tried everything I know. Any solution would be appreciated as I am desperate. As simple as poss please

Restore the last version from your backups. No backups? Well, then you lost your data.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

I gave your file a try: I took a look at it with a hex editor. All it contains are 12032 Bytes of value zero. So there is nothing to rescue from that file.

Check your backup folder in the profile perhaps: [Tutorial] The OOo user profile.

Was it caused by a crash? Any specific event?

Thanks, I think it may have happened when I MAY have had the file opened and there was a power cut but I cant be sure.
What doeshappen is that when I try to open the file a page headed "TEXT IMPORT" comes on screen with the file heading on it and if I press OK it opens in WRITER with a page full of ###### which would indicate to me that there must be something there if I could only get it to open in CALC. But I dont understand why when doing a full backup restore it did not come back up
Anyway tomorrow I will try your sugestion, again many thanks

Sadly, nothing to do: 22 page term paper replaced with pound signs.

Check the temporary folder of the system (see in OOo Tools>Options>OOo>Paths). If there are folders like sgmlf.tmp with a file having the same name inside, make a copy of that file, rename it in .ods and cross your fingers.
