Can OpenOffice.org open .docx files?

Post by openofficefan121 »

Hello, I was received a .docx file from my teacher who used Microsoft Office 07' I'm assuming. When I clicked to download it - it opened it but it was all messed up and was everywhere, so I assume .docx files are not possible with OpenOffice. I then searched on Google to see how to get them to load. Couldn't find an answer so I'm hoping someone on here can help me? I have uninstalled and then reinstalled OpenOffice (so I guess I'm on latest version). Is there anyone that could help me or tell me when OpenOffice will get compatible with these types of files? Thankss ~ Dillon

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Have a look at: MS Office 2007 OOXML file format (docx, xslx, pptx, ppsx).

If you've to use docx, then use MS Office. It has not been designed to be compatible with anything else.

Thanks for being so nice and thanks for the answer!

I guess I'll have to wait until OO is compatible with .docx type files. Do you happen to know when OO will be compatible with those files?

I hope it won't be compatible anytime soon. The OOXML format is a trap. MSO doesn't even support the so called ISO standard.
