OOo 3.2.1 install error "vc_red.msi" file unavailable?
It says its unavailable because it's on a shared network or something to that regard. I know from doing a little searching that it's a temporary root file?
I also saw a suggestion on this forum that you need to change your root distribution software.
What do I need to do to resolve this?

I've no personal experience of Windows 7, but many Windows 7 problems on this Forum seem to be Permission problems, caused by the operating system not permitting access to the requisite directories.

I've never seen that error message in forums.
Do you run the installer as admin?

There is a problem with permissions for the VC_RED.msi file. Do you get an error number with it? If so, search this forum for that number. Visual C redistributable package needs to write to the system root directory on Windows 7 64bit. From memory (I'm not certain) I think you have to right click on the OpenOffice package and select something like "run as Administrator". If there is an error number it will help find a solution.

The path 'c:\fb04a1c607f00610b3cc61cb\vc_red.msi' cannot be found. Verify that you have access tot he location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'vc_red.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.021022
That is from an administrator account and right clicking and running as administrator.

There seem to have been problems with Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 redistribution package. A Google search suggests that sometimes an earlier version of the package should be removed before attempting to install the later version. Also: are you certain that no firewall or anti-virus application is preventing access to the root of C: and that there is sufficient free space on C:?
Edit: You could try to D/L the Visual C++ redistributable package from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en and install it separately before trying to install OpenOffice. |

Same problem for me. Was quite inconvenient. Tried a system restore and whole bunches of other stuff. In the end this is what did it for me. When I was installing it pop-ed up with the error saying vc_red.msi unavailable. I clicked browse. In the top right search bar in the browse window I typed "vc_red.msi". A file named vc_red.msi appeared and I selected it and told it to continue. The installation continued without a hitch. Not saying it will work for you, but with a little bit of luck it might.

Okay, I tried everything you guys suggested, because I have this message coming up any time I try to uninstall anything that requires Visual C++. I restored back as far as it'll let me go. I've even used Microsoft FixIt to manually install/uninstall much of the Visual C++ packages I have (2005/2008/2010) and repair them. I also used CCleaner to fix 400 registry errors. So I tried the link to download vcredist_x86.exe, and that gave me this:
Err... Now what? Is formatting the drive the only solution remaining?

Try downloading the Visual package from the link given in my posting of 24 October 2010 and installing that. It should be self contained.

My posting was earlier in this thread and you should simply be able to scroll back to it when viewing the thread,. However here is the information again
Note that I haven't used Windows to any extent for the past 8 years, so I am at the limit of my knowledge in that regard. You could try to D/L the Visual C++ redistributable package from
