"No default printer found. Please choose a printer..."
"No default printer found. Please choose a printer..."
I see where this has been asked, but not solved.
I am using Vista, a dedicated printer (Canon Pixma MX330) is active and on, OpenOffice can "see" the printer set as the default and hooked up via USB but buttons for "properties" and "OK" are greyed out. Can change to other printer options (Canon Pixma fax for example) but the result is the same - OO does not recognize that I have a printer set up as my default.
What's really weird is that I have printed from OO before with no issues. Tried updating my version of OO, updating Windows, rebooting, etc. Oh, and the printer works fine in other applications.
Can anyone help please??!!
Thanks

What exactly do you do? What exactly tells you that something goes wrong?
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Is your printer driven by USB connection? If so, is the cable in the same port as the printer was originally installed on?

specifically, I try to print using either the printer icon or the file-print option. The result is the same - the warning dialog box pops up with the message in my subjecy line.

It was an outside chance! I've known USB devices that would not work unless connected to the exact port on which they had been installed.

Another thought is that you should reinstall the printer now tha OpenOffice is installed on your computter. Perhaps the order of installation is important and (re)installing it after OpenOffice may reveal it to OpenOffice in its entirety. The order of installation shouldn't matter of course, but who knows?
Also, it may be worth searching for a fix or hot patch or service pack for Vista; there may be specific mention of a USB fix (there certainly were for Win2K and XP).

I went to Microsoft and did indeed find an optional update for my printer, which I downloaded and installed. Unfortunately that didn't help.

There is also a Microsoft cumulative update for USB.

Re: "No default printer found. Please choose a printer..."
I ran into the same problem with Open Office failing to print in Windows XP. However, it was with the prior version of Open Office - 3.1.
It has been a while but, as I recall it had to do with the order of installation. Not sure, but I think to fix it I totally un-installed Open Office and then re-installed (printer was still installed) and then it printed O.K.
As I said, it has been a while so I may have it backwards but I'm sure of the fact that I had to play with the order of installation. Hopefully you know what order you installed the two, so try the other way around.
