[Solved] Anyone still have a copy of MS Works 2.x?

Post by White Phoenix »

I am trying to reconstruct the sample budget file that came with Microsoft Works 2.1 that I used a long time ago. I have tried doing it from memory, but it isn’t working. Does anyone still have a copy of Works 2.x, the manual, or the sample files that came with it? Or know of a site which might?

Failing that, could anyone help me figure out what I’m missing in the setup. The 2.1 sample budget spreadsheet was setup differently than the ones for 5.0+. It had the months across the top and the categories along the left. Totals for the year were in the final right column. Income and automatic deductions were at the top. The bottom row showed if the budget for the month was over or under.

The part I can’t remember is how the projected figures were displayed along with the cells where the actual money spent would be entered. It also seems to me that there was a way that the budget amounts for the month were rolled over to the subsequent months.

White Phoenix,

I do not have a copy of MS Works 2.x, but I developed a quick and dirty model in Calc. Enter the revenues or spendings in the sheet Detail, and the sheet Yearly View will recalculate automatically. Note that I protected Yearly View to avoid any direct entries in the calculated cells, but you can easily remove the protection in Tools > Protect Document > Sheet.

I had Office 2003 but I scrapped it after 5 years, and swore I'd never buy a Bill Gates product again. I switched to Open Office.org

Does anyone have a template for figuring Right triangles?

What do you mean by “figuring right triangles”. If you want the formula for obtaining the hypotenuse of a right triangle, it’s:

Code: Select all

c^2 = a^2 + b^2
Anyway, I don’t want all of Works 2.x, just the one table.

Thanks, Squenson, for sending the sample table. It isn’t what I was looking for, but it may prove useful later.

Just wish that my memory was better so I could at least describe what I’m missing better and that I had saved the sample tables to an archive before throwing away my old Works 2.1 disks. Oh wait, they were on 5-inch floppies. That’s why I couldn’t get them saved.
